Times Square New Year’s Eve Webcast

This is a 6-hour webcast streamed to multiple platforms. It includes interviews with people celebrating in the square, performances, and ends with the ball drop at midnight.

Roles:

Encoding Engineer 

Manages the stream and ensures end-to-end quality, monitors recordings, and reports status as needed.

Primary responsibilities include: 

  • Gather streaming credentials from the client

  • Collect stream Title, Thumbnail, Description, and Watch Page URL from clients (if necessary)

  • Perform test streams to platform(s)

  • Ensure clean and proper transmissions of streams

  • Configure encoder and adjust resolution, bitrate, etc as needed

  • Initiate and manage streams on the platform side

  • Start, Stop, and Manage records 

  • Note the start and end timecode of records

  • Manage stream distribution/transcoding 

  • Push streams to GO LIVE on platforms as directed

  • Ensure audio and video quality, audio sync, and captions by monitoring the final stream on consumer page(s)

  • Communicate any issues immediately to the Producer / Director 

  • Document (at regular intervals determined by the producer, the concurrent viewership, total viewership, health, and other key metrics

Accessibility Producer:

Coordinates and directs ASL stream.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Provide interpreters updated run-of-shows and scripts leading up to the event

  • Route main program to interpreters Zoom meeting

  • Route feed with ASL interpretation to destination

  • Communicate upcoming segments and breaks to interpreters during the event

  • Switch to slate when interpreters are not on camera
